We all owe thanks to Kate Turabian for developing the Turabian Style. Kate Turabian was the dissertation secretary at the University of Chicago. Her book A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, sheds more light on the Turabian formatting style including how to set up a Turabian style page.
The Turabian Style is based on the Chicago style of writing. Also, it is majorly used when writing humanity papers such as history papers, religion papers, English Literature papers, Philosophy papers, and sometimes in other disciplines.
When formatting scholarly books, the Chicago formatting style is the standard. However, since students always had issues writing papers, the focus of Kate Turabian was on the rules refined for paper writing.
Therefore, the Turabian style deviates from Chicago Style in a few ways as it omits the information only relevant to publishers.
There are two formatting conventions under Turabian Style:
When instructed to write Turabian Style papers, always stick to the endnotes and footnotes variant, unless specified.
Margins: the margins should be 1-inch and no more than 1.5 inches.
Typeface and Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt. font is always preferred. If you must use a lower font size, it should not be below 10 pt.
Spacing: Your entire Turabian Style Paper should be double-spaced. However, there are a few exceptions, including block quotes, footnotes, endnotes, bibliographies, reference lists, table titles, and figure captions.
Page Numbering: Page numbers always begin on the first page where you start the text. This means that the Turabian Style Cover Page or title page does not have a page number. The page numbers must appear on the top right of the page header or the bottom center of the footer.
Title page: The title pages vary per the requirements. Be sure to acquaint yourself with various Turabian Style cover pages or title pages for college papers.
Word processors will format and number the notes automatically. That is how exciting and smooth technology has made education. Any deletion or update of the notes will be automatically corrected in the paper.
When referring to whole books or chapters of the Apocrypha or Bible in the text of your Turabian Style Papers, state the name of the books and avoid italicizing or Underlining them.
For example, 2 Samuel records the entire confrontation between Prophet Nathan and King David.
When citing the bible in endnotes, footnotes, and parenthetical citations, there is no need to include the Bible in your reference list or bibliography.
If you are to cite a specific passage or the scripture, only use the abbreviated name of the book, chapter, and verse numbers. However, DO NOT include the page number. The chapter and verse numbers are always separated by a colon.
